Today we had our final awards assembly where there were two members of each class receiving awards for Academic Excellence and Personal Excellence. The Year 5 and 6 children received their service to the school awards too. Our class eagerly waited for the announcement of the new deputy house captains for 2012. What a great way to end our year at school.

Meet the new deputy captains for next year. Akira for Hillary, Kartik for Walker and Caleb for Batten.  What an awesome job they will do next year.

Our Summer Poems

On Tuesday it was the last day we had Mrs Browne in our class. We talked about summer and came up with lots of ideas. We turned our ideas into acrostic poems which we published on the computer afterwards. Merry Christmas Mrs Browne, we hope you have a lovely break.

SUMMER

Summer air, in the sun you and me
Under the sea seeing sea creatures
Making BBQs with my dad and
Making a ball to play volleyball on the sand
Every summer is so cool and
Relaxing in the shade and eating food, yum ice cream.
By Paula

Super humid sunny hot days
Under a big umbrella listening to music
Melting ice cream as you wait
More of these hot days will keep coming
Every day is super fun at the beach and pools
Relaxation in the sunny hot sticky sun
By Aimee

Slurping on cool ice cream
Unforgettable long days and good times with family
My family loves watching movies
Munching on strawberry ice cream in the back yard
Eating BBQs with my family
Relaxing in the warm sunshine peacefully
By Derick.

Sizzling in the burning hot sun
Under a colourful shade umbrella
Making fresh delicious cold lemonade
Mixing strawberries to make a fresh smoothie
Enjoying a yummy hokey pokey ice cream
Relaxing in the sun, summer air surrounding you
By Akira

Slurping on a nice cold sparking lemonade
Under the trees in a colourful hammock
Meeting new incredible friends
Magnificent and incredible presents
Enjoying an explosive start to the new year
Relaxing in the warm sunshine peacefully

Our NZ Habitat Dioramas

This term we have been learning about NZ habitats. We chose one and designed a diorama showing what we would find in each. Here are the pictures of our dioramas.

Performing Arts Festival

Last week a group of children from LZ19 participated in the Performing arts festival. We had two night shows and a matinee for some local schools.  It was great fun and an opportunity for the children to show off their talents in the choir, Korean and Chinese dances, line dancing and lots more.  Here are some of our photos.

Habitat Poems

We have been learning about New Zealand's natural habitats. We wrote some acostic poems about them.

Fresh air surrounding you
Over there are our beautiful native birds
Rivers for the birds to bath in and drink from
Each bird can safely lay their eggs
Safely the eggs crack
Tourists watch and take pictures of the lovely birds.

By Akira.

Twirling water with pebbles
Hitting the sand for food
Eating krill for lunch

Crying, I can see a little blue penguin
Opening the new coast at the zoo
Ate a huge lunch for a big journey
Swimming with a cute seal
Tweeting birds, you can hear

By Faadhil.

High country, there are lots of Keas
In the high country there are blue ducks and geekos
Geekos hide under rocks
High country is an elevated land

Calling out for fun
Only the parrot, Kea lived there
Uses rocks for homes
New Zealand's high country
The high country is in the south island
Rocks and shingle
Your High Country!

By Ariel.

Night is a place of darkness
I love night
Giant dark sky
Hundreds of lights and rock
The best place for a kiwi
